Interviewing and Hiring Workshops & Resources
Full-Day Workshop:
Interview Right to Hire Right
Interview Right to Hire Right takes participants from the moment a vacancy is identified to when the right person is hired and joins the team: identifying job requirements, writing and asking the right questions, assembling an interview panel, assessing candidates’ responses, avoiding common hiring mistakes, conducting reference checks, onboarding new staff and more.
The workshop includes lessons, individual and group activities, guided practice and many opportunities to ask questions. Every participant will receive a workbook that includes exercises, scripts, checklists, sample questions and more, and will serve as a post-workshop reference.
Conference/convention breakouts:
Unlucky When Hiring?
Have you ever wondered, “What was I thinking when I hired this guy?” His on-the-job performance doesn’t match what his resumé and interview promised. What went wrong? It’s tempting to attribute hiring decisions that don’t work out to just “being unlucky.” Turns out, luck has little to do with it. Most bad hires can be traced back to mistakes that could easily have been avoided. By the end of this session, participants will understand the 13 reasons administrators are “unlucky” when hiring and how to avoid these missteps.
“This was fantastic and I learned many useful tips for hiring candidates. I have made some of these mistakes and I like knowing what to do differently.” —Tracey Bombard, assistant principal
“Great content! Loved the handouts, info and factors to consider. Super helpful!” —Sheri Bullough, assistant principal
“I felt each of the reasons were explained well. As a teacher, I felt the session was still useful because it made me more mindful of my performance during interviews.” —Jared Boyd, teacher
Hire Like Sherlock
Sherlock Holmes. Inspector Gamache. Hercule Poirot. Miss Marple. As an interviewer, you have more in common with characters from classic detective fiction, film and television than you may realize. The goal of both detectives and interviewers is to gather evidence and make decisions based on the facts. Who committed murder most foul? Which candidate is right for the job? Discover how crime-solving investigative techniques can solve the mystery of finding the right person to hire.
Your Questions About Questions Answered
For this highly interactive program, participants set the agenda. Bring your questions about how to interview and hire the right people. They will be answered. The first minutes of this AMA session (Ask Me Anything) will be devoted to hearing your questions. What to ask during interviews? How to write questions that will yield high-quality information on which to base your hiring decisions? How to assess candidates’ responses? Who should be on your interview panel? What is their role? What to do on Day One to ensure new staff commit to your organization?
